Wrapped up two incredible full days diving into AI for education on 4th and 5th April 2024 with Microsoft AI Teach ASEAN. Huge thanks to ASEAN Foundation for organising it, especially to Daren Tan for keeping things engaging and entertaining. Despite me keeping up with current trends when it comes to AI, I still learned a number of new things.
As a lead project manager and lead trainer for The Future of Learning programme, I was particularly interested in understanding the state of AI in education across ASEAN. The sessions covered everything from the basics of Generative AI to the likes of prompt engineering. Even though Microsoft focussed mainly on their AI stuff, like Co-Pilot, it got everyone talking about the bigger picture of AI’s impact on future jobs across ASEAN countries, which was fresh information for me (most sessions I’ve attended the past year have always been conversations at a global scale – so this was welcoming).
Meeting other trainers from the region was also a breath of fresh air. Sharing experiences and perspectives really helped me get a sense of where we stand with AI integration in education throughout ASEAN. It’s a buzzing space, with a ton of potential for AI to personalise learning and to make our jobs as trainers even more impactful.
As we move forward, I’m looking for more conversations about ethical considerations alongside the tech side. This, I learned, has a big market right now.
The future of work might be changing fast, but by working together and focusing on responsible implementation, AI could be a game-changer for education in our region!
